Home chores are such a bore when you’re not listening to music or unless you’re like me humming to a tune to kill the boredom. If it isn’t already bad enough that singing in the shower does enough damage to the listener’s eardrum, my singing talents creep in when you least expect it. The other day while preparing coffee at work, I was humming “Blossom, commander and the leader. Bubbles, she’s the joy and the laughter, Buttercup, she’s the toughest fighter, Power puffs save the day!” only to look up at my colleagues giving me a “Are you OK?” look. I could not believe how this song seemed to have been registered in my mind in the first place. It’s been years since I watched Power Puff girls. Cartoon network was once upon a time, an addiction in a way. The older you get, cartoons are the one things that keep your “childhood” innocence active and alive. Anyway, if you’re as silly as me, you can always get a hold of that song from televisiontunes.com for starters. Besides the power puff girl song, the whole impact about theme songs, be it cartoons or soap operas are neat tools to get you remembering what was behind it. Well, look at how the bigger organizations have used it to their advantage. Like this advertisement from Intel, it made an impact and at the end the way the guys hum the “Intel” tune just rubs the message in. Irritating sounds that is so annoying to hear in the advertisements of certain products make you remember the name of the product. But I guess, that’s where the catch is, it irritates you, but sticks right in the mind, doesn’t it?

Perhaps the next time you turn on your television, you should know, they small innocent sound bytes are actually getting your memory’s attention even without your knowledge.
